S.N.S Herning

Introducing Danish brand S.N.S Herning – makers of tough wearing, hand knitted garments since 1931. Founder Søren Nielsen Skyt started producing knitwear for fisherman which was characterised by its lightweight ‘bubble’ construction. This technique is still used today, resulting in robust, highly insulated sweaters which are both lightweight and unrestrictive. All knitting still takes place in Denmark by a team of just four men with each finished garment signed by the person who knitted it.

The Stark cardigan was first issued in 1971 and has been a fall staple ever since it’s debut. This version comes in an exclusive olde blue with large donut buttons and pure, new virgin wool. The complex knit patterns on the cardigan are very intricate and can only be achieved through years of experience with the ancient machines that now reside in Herning, Denmark. The high neck is great for keeping warm while the body of the cardigan sits casually and nicely with any outfit. The sweater has a great weight to it and can double as a light jacket in the Fall or Spring

The Fisherman sweater is still to this day being knitted at their Herning factory, and in much the same way as at it’s lauch some eighty years ago. There are strict rules that go into this particular knit – the layout of the bobble pattern, cut, measurements, and the finishing all follow a strict set of guidlines. It’s a piece that’s at the core of the range, so it comes as no surprise to see it in this new collection.

There’s plenty more in the collection with some excellent cable knits in many different styles, all of which show off the labels knitting expertise whist still staying quintessentially S.N.S. Herning in look and feel. It’s the pattern knits that these guys do better than anyone else out there and the Stark cardigan for me is one of their absolute classic items.
