Marukyu Koyamaen Shohaku Matcha - 100g

Marukyu Koyamaen's Shohaku is a mid-level ceremonial grade matcha that is best served without milk due to its prominent herbaceous and bright, floral scent and flavour. It starts with a nice smooth and creamy consistency and a notable delicate sweetness. Shohaku's flavour is more assertive than Aoarashi, has almost no astringency and finishes with a mild bitterness and salinity akin to wakame at the back of the mouth. Shohaku is a special blend recommended by the current tea master of the Urasenke School of Tea, as an enjoyable matcha for daily drinking.

Matcha recognised as ceremonial grade by tea masters is given poetic names that reflect its essence. Shohaku '松柏' can be translated as 'Pine & Oak' suggesting a flavour that is strong, fresh and enduring.

Shohaku is our top pick in the ceremonial grade matcha, from the Marukyu Koyamaen family of matcha blends.

Marukyu Koyamaen's '丸久小山園', history spans 300 years, and epitomises a commitment to quality in tea production. Located in the heart of Uji, Kyoto, this esteemed tea grower, procurer, and blender boasts a private estate dating back to 1704. Their range of Japanese green teas are meticulously crafted through a combination of traditional and modern techniques and remains unparalleled in the world of Matcha making. Favoured by the tea schools, shrines, temples and widely seen in the kitchens of some of the world's best restaurants and hotels, the Marukyu Koyamaen name today is far reaching and widely recognised.
