Chigi No Shiro - 40g

Chigi No Shiro from Marukyu Koyamaen is medium bodied matcha with a sweet aroma. Vegetal notes are soft, bright and refreshing with a gentle astringency and tartness at the back of the mouth. The overall profile of this matcha has toasty umami notes, a velvety and creamy mouth feel with a lingering sweetness.

Ceremonial matcha are graded by the most revered 'Chasi' or tea masters in Japan and given their respective poetic names derived from the essence of the tea by these masters. Chigi No Shiro was bestowed it's name by Keikouin Shun, the former Grand Priest of Ise Jingu (Ise Grand Shrine), to commemorate the relocation of the shrine and the dedication to maintaining tradition with a constantly renewed spirit, inspired by the ornamental rafter ends that extend beyond the gables of the new main shrine. This matcha blend is refreshing, revitalising and ever changing in its flavour.

Marukyu Koyamaen's '丸久小山園', history spans 300 years, and epitomises a commitment to quality in tea production. Located in the heart of Uji, Kyoto, this esteemed tea grower, procurer, and blender boasts a private estate dating back to 1704. Their range of Japanese green teas are meticulously crafted through a combination of traditional and modern techniques and remains unparalleled in the world of Matcha making. Favoured by the tea schools, shrines, temples and widely seen in the kitchens of some of the world's best restaurants and hotels, the Marukyu Koyamaen name today is far reaching and widely recognised.
