FOOTAGE
Founded in Darlinghurst in 2003, Footage began as one of the first boutiques in Australia dedicated to rare and limited sneakers, alongside independent Japanese and international labels that were difficult to access locally at the time. Before online shopping became commonplace, the store became known for sourcing hard to find products from Japan, Singapore, Europe and the United States long before they became widely available.
For 19 years, Footage stood on Burton Street in the heart of Darlinghurst. What mattered was never trend cycles alone, but the instinct behind the selection. Products with longevity. Labels with a strong point of view. Things that carried weight beyond their moment.
Some customers came for sneakers. Others for Japanese streetwear, heritage garments or hard to find objects. Over time, Footage became less about any single category and more about the environment built around them. Garments, objects, hospitality and everyday goods connected by how they were made and the people behind them.
The store evolved alongside the neighbourhood around it. Long before concepts like “curated retail” became common language, Footage built a community around discovery, conversation and products chosen with intention.
After years spent refining buying, sourcing and production through Footage, the owners expanded that approach into a broader framework through Eastern Hill General Supplies. The shift came from understanding that the same principles applied beyond clothing alone. The goodwill built over two decades of retail became deeply tied to the trust customers placed in the selection itself, regardless of category.
In 2022, Footage evolved into Eastern Hill General Supplies.
The shift was not about leaving Footage behind, but about creating a broader framework around the same principles that shaped the store from the beginning.
Many long standing relationships carried forward. Japanese tea producers with established lineages. Independent labels refining a single product over decades. Makers working with heritage production methods, natural materials and small scale manufacturing.
Eastern Hill remains connected to the same instinct that shaped Footage from the start. The categories expanded, but the filter behind them did not.
Footage Made continues as part of Eastern Hill. The tailoring line reflects years of development through retail, sourcing and lived experience, built around practical silhouettes, durable fabrics and everyday use.
Some of you remember the wall of rare sneakers and hard to find streetwear labels.
Some of you stayed through the shift.
This is where we are now.
Footage remains part of Eastern Hill’s history and continues through the tailoring, the archive, the relationships built over two decades, and the principles that continue to shape the store today.
