Made from natural mother of pearl, these spoons are formed from the nacre lining of pearl oyster shells. Each piece carries its own subtle variation in tone, grain, and translucency, a result of the shell’s natural structure rather than surface treatment or moulding.
Thicker than contemporary decorative spoons, they were made for everyday use. The weight sits comfortably in the hand, and the smooth, non reactive surface makes them well suited to fine salts, matcha, caviar and other powdered or granular ingredients.
Mother of pearl has long been used across East Asia for tableware and small utensils due to its durability, cool touch, and resistance to staining. These qualities make it especially practical for ingredients that are sensitive to metal or that benefit from precise portioning.
No two spoons are identical. Variations in colour, warmth, and pattern are inherent to the material and should be considered part of their character rather than imperfections.
