ISLE OF TIGERS

Isle of Tigers is an in house line by Eastern Hill General Supplies.

Singapore has never been just one thing. It has always been the place where things meet. Chinese traders and Malay traditions. Indian spice merchants and British colonial architecture. Nonya kitchens and wet market mornings. Shophouse facades painted in colours that have no single origin. A language that borrows from every direction and makes something entirely its own.

The Peranakan culture grew from this convergence. Straits-born, shaped by centuries of merged and convergent cultures across the Straits of Malacca, it produced food, textiles, objects and ways of living that could not have come from anywhere else. Not a dilution of traditions but a hybridisation that made something stronger and more specific than any single source.

We chose the tiger because it belongs here. Watchful rather than loud, ferocious without excess — the true native of these lands and the honest emblem of what this island has always been. Small in geography. Titanic in everything else.

Isle of Tigers draws from all of it. The architecture of the shophouses, the colours of the nonya kuehs, the batik, the wet market, the collision of old and new, eastern and western that defines this city and everything it produces. Garments, carriers and everyday goods shaped by that inheritance and made for how we live now.

Chronicles of the Straits Born.
