Vintage Seiko Pogue 6139-600X Chronograph

This vintage Seiko 6139 - 600X Chronograph, circa 1969 - 1971 with yellow gold dial is nicknamed the Pogue.

Back in 1966, NASA selected USAF pilo Colonel William Pogue as one of the original astronauts for the Apollo Program. Initially selected for the aborted Apollo 19 mission, Pogue was later transferred to the Skylab program. As history would have it, Colonel Pogue was sent into space as part of Skylab 4 for a mission that lasted 84 days (late 1973 into 1974)

While Pogue was testing prior to launch, he needed a chronograph to time with that he would wear up on his mission. As the Omega Speedmasters were not issued till very close to mission launch dates, the Colonel bought this Seiko 6139 with a yellow dial. It became the 1st automatic chronograph to be used in space and it performed flawlessly.
