Yukishio of Miyakojima Okinawa Snow Salt

Dispatches from Sydney within 1–2 business days

Yukishio is a finely powdered sea salt produced on Miyakojima Island, Okinawa. Seawater is drawn from deep underground after passing naturally through layers of Ryukyu limestone and coral, enriching it with a broad spectrum of minerals before gentle low-temperature processing.

The result is an exceptionally light, snow-like salt that dissolves quickly, delivering a soft, rounded salinity with subtle sweetness and a clean finish.

Ideal as a finishing salt for vegetables, seafood, grilled meats and tempura, or for enhancing soups, broths and even baked goods where balanced seasoning matters.

Not just salt. A finer, softer way to season that brings clarity and balance to the flavour of a dish.

Yukishio (Snow Salt) of Miyakojima, produced by Paradise Plan Co., Ltd. since 1994, is a premium, mineral-rich sea salt from Okinawa, Japan. Recognized by Guinness World Records in 2000 for its high mineral content, the company uses a patented instant-evaporation method on underground seawater to create a fine, powdery, and mildly bitter-free salt, now a staple souvenir with its own dedicated museum, shops, and confectionery line.

Unlike conventional sea salts that rely on large-scale evaporation or high heat, seawater used for Yukishio is drawn from approximately 22 metres below ground, where it has passed naturally through layers of Ryukyu limestone and coral. This geological filtration removes impurities and enriches the water with dissolved minerals before any concentration takes place. The filtered seawater is then gently processed at low temperatures, preserving its mineral composition while forming exceptionally light, ultra fine snow-like salt.

Yukishio dissolves quickly and seasons evenly. Its flavour is soft and rounded, with a subtle sweetness and clean finish. Because the grains are so light, less salt is needed to achieve balance, making it especially suitable for precise seasoning.
