Established in 2012, Redrice Company was founded to preserve the ancient red rice traditions of Soja City while introducing them to modern kitchens. Based in Okayama Prefecture, the company grows, processes and develops products centred on red rice, overseeing everything from cultivation through to milling and packaging as part of Japan's recognised sixth-industry agricultural model.
Soja is one of only three places in Japan where the ancient tradition of offering red rice in Shinto ceremonies has been continuously preserved. The company's Akaonimochi variety carries the genetics of Soja's historic red rice, allowing this regional agricultural heritage to continue beyond ceremonial use and into everyday cooking.
Today, Redrice Company continues to champion ancient grains through cultivation, product development and education, encouraging red rice to be enjoyed not only on special occasions but as part of contemporary Japanese home cooking.
