Matcha - Goryoku

Goryoku, meaning “Strong Green,” is a versatile matcha selected from first and second harvest tencha grown in Nishio by heritage producer Aoi Seicha.

Its powder releases a sweet aroma reminiscent of milk chocolate and milk candy. Whisked traditionally (as an Usucha), it delivers a vivid colour, smooth body, and a balanced profile of gentle sweetness, clean umami, and a light, leafy bitterness (akin to tender dark leafy greens) that finishes fresh rather than sharp. The flavour is structured and satisfying, with minimal astringency.

In milk lattes, its vivid colour holds beautifully. Milk rounds off any sharpness and brings its natural sweetness to the fore with the comforting nostalgic aroma of matcha ice cream. The smooth vegetal notes remain present, the flavours are clear, refreshing and balanced making this blend endlessly drinkable.

Its strength and clarity make it ideal for everyday drinking as usucha, while its depth and colour hold beautifully in lattes, where milk brings forward soft, rounded sweetness.

An everyday matcha with the strength to drink straight and the body to carry milk.

Higashiyama-en is the tea line developed in-house by Eastern Hill General Supplies.

The name references Kyoto’s Higashiyama ward, a historic centre of Japanese tea culture closely connected to Uji matcha. It reflects an approach shaped by precision, respect for process, and a long view of craft.

This philosophy parallels our own Eastern Hill identity, with both names speaking to a place, a landscape, and a way of working that values restraint, consistency, and quiet confidence.

Teas are sourced from established producers and selected for cultivar, growing conditions, processing, and reliability. The range is curated for daily use, offering matcha that performs with clarity while remaining grounded in tradition.
