The Thylacine (widely known as the Tasmanian Tiger) was once widespread across Continental Australia, extending north to New Guinea and south to Tasmania. An apex predator, the Thylacine had been hunted to extinction on the mainland but survived on the island of Tasmania, along with other endemic species, including the Tasmanian Devil till the 1930s. It was recoded that the introduction of sheep by European settlers brought about the start of a tragic period of conflict that led to a mass cull of the species, leading to extinction.
The legend of the Thylacine lives on, in the Eastern Hill.
