The fragrances created at Laboratory Perfumes often start with a single aroma. In Samphire’s case, it was a young leaf of verbena plucked from a friend’s garden on a spring afternoon. The scent was so arrestingly fresh, they decided to find a way to capture its zesty rush for our third fragrance.
They crushed a sprig of that verbena with a pinch of juniper berries from the spice rack – and Samphire began to take shape. Moving from the kitchen to the lab, the brand blended in citrus oil, flourishes of lavender, basil and rosemary, and base notes of white amber and oak moss to create a bright, cool, aromatic scent with a lightness of touch that belies its complexity and longevity on the skin. The finished scent was so clearly evocative of the seashore, it could only be called Samphire.

Ethics of the Brand
All our scents are made in the UK using socially conscious, environmentally friendly and cruelty-free ingredients. We don’t test on animals and our scents are created in our lab using essential and fragrant oils. All of them are skin-kind and free from parabens (Gorse does contain a small amount of phthalates & preservatives which are required to stabilise the citrus oils).
Lastly, all of our products are full compliant with the International Fragrance Association Standards.
Laboratory Perfumes fragrances are made with non-animal-derived ingredients and therefore vegan.
We demand the same ethical and environmental standards of everyone we work with – our supply chain is small, transparent, located entirely within the UK and fully adherent to ISO 9000: 2008. All glass, card and paper used in Laboratory Perfumes packaging is sustainably sourced and widely recycled.
