Matcha - Goryoku

Goryoku or 'Strong Green' lives up to its name with a vibrant colour and deeply satisfying flavour. The tencha leaves used for this matcha is selected from the first (May - June) and second harvest (July - Aug). It's powder releases a sweet aroma reminiscent of milk chocolate and milk candy. When whisked in the traditional way as an usucha, Goryoku reveals a rich umami profile, smooth and savoury with just a gentle bitterness like tender dark leafy greens. The taste is bright, refreshing and lingers with a clean, satisfying mouthfeel and minimal astringency.

In lattes, its vivid colour hold beautifully. Milk rounds off any sharpness and brings its natural sweetness to the fore with the comforting nostalgic aroma of matcha ice cream. The smooth vegetal notes remain present, the flavours are clear, refreshing and balanced making this blend endlessly drinkable. Produced in Nishio from one of our favourite producers, Goryoku is recommended for both drink and cold dessert applications.

Higashiyama-en draws reference from Higashiyama ward - a historic district in Kyoto where tea culture was shaped through centuries of tradition, artistry and quiet reverence. This area is closely connected to Uji, one of Japan's most esteemed regions for matcha cultivation. More than a name, Higashiyama-en reflects our respect for the quiet precision, hospitality and deep intention that define tea tradition. This philosophy is also embodied in our parent identity: Eastern Hill General Supplies, where beautifully functional life goods are made for good living. It's from this foundational name that Higashiyama-en naturally emerged - a garden within the hill. Each spring the garden bursts with new green. Locals say you can taste the stillness of the Eastern Hill in every sip - a gentle grounding reminder of nature's patience. The best and most tender leaves are procured for your quiet enjoyment.
