Hojicha Powder - Shokoya

Dispatches from Sydney within 1–2 business days

Shokoya, meaning Fragrant Nightfall, is an ode to the aroma of pinewood and incense drifting through the evening air, capturing the spirit of this tea: warming, grounding and quietly restorative.

This finely milled hojicha powder is produced in Nishio, Aichi Prefecture by heritage tea producer Aoi Seicha. Made from carefully selected tencha stems and leaves, it is double roasted to draw out a rich, earthy depth reminiscent of toasted cacao, pinewood and gentle smoke.

Smooth and full without heaviness, Shokoya carries the signature roasted notes of hojicha with surprising clarity. The finish is clean and refreshing, leaving a gentle warmth that lingers without weight. The flavour is warm, earthy and quietly comforting, composed rather than overpowering.

Prepared simply with water, it offers a calm, caffeine-light alternative to matcha. With milk, Shokoya develops rounded roasted sweetness and depth, holding its character confidently in latte form without becoming flat or overly sweet.

Designed for versatility, Shokoya works beautifully in lattes, desserts and baking, or whisked with water for an evening cup. It performs reliably across hot and iced applications.

Part of the Higashiyama-en range developed by Eastern Hill General Supplies, it reflects our focus on reliable performance, balance and everyday use.

Higashiyama-en is the tea line developed in-house by Eastern Hill General Supplies.

The name references Kyoto’s Higashiyama ward, a historic centre of Japanese tea culture closely connected to Uji matcha. It reflects an approach shaped by precision, respect for process, and a long view of craft.

This philosophy parallels our own Eastern Hill identity, with both names speaking to a place, a landscape, and a way of working that values restraint, consistency, and quiet confidence.

Teas are sourced from established producers and selected for cultivar, growing conditions, processing, and reliability. The range is curated for daily use, offering matcha that performs with clarity while remaining grounded in tradition.
